This peppermint sugar scrub cubes recipe is simple to whip up and makes an adorable gift, or make some for yourself for silky smooth skin. Sugar scrub cubes are less messy than traditional scrubs and won’t make your tub floor slippery.
Sugar scrub cube recipes took the internet by storm a few years back. Although sugar scrub cubes aren’t new anymore, I still think they’re adorable. This peppermint sugar scrub cubes recipe is on my go-to list when I need a quick, inexpensive-yet-impressive handmade gift.
If you missed the sugar scrub cube craze, let me introduce you to them.
Sugar scrub cubes are a blend of soap, moisturizing oils, and (you guessed it) sugar. You use them to exfoliate, smooth, and moisturize the skin.
Because they’re solid cubes, some people find them more convenient and less messy than traditional sugar scrubs. Also, the added soap base means sugar scrub cubes leave the skin feeling less oily too.
They leave your skin feeling silky soft, and are the perfect remedy for dry, wintertime skin.

Peppermint Sugar Scrub Cubes Recipe
The recipe below is for a fresh peppermint scent, but feel free to substitute any essential oils of your choosing. Some ideas: sweet orange, lavender, eucalyptus, or chamomile.
You can also use soap fragrance oils that you find at your craft store. (Make sure these are
labeled for soap, not for candles or room fresheners.)

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup clear glycerin melt and pour soap base, chopped
- 1/3 cup sweet almond oil or sunflower oil
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 25 drops peppermint essential oil
- 1/4 teaspoon dried peppermint (you can cut open a peppermint tea bag for this!)
You’ll also need:
- 8×8 silicone baking pan or glass/metal pan lined with freezer paper
Step 1: Cut your soap base into small pieces, about 1/4 inch cubes but don’t worry about getting too precise with this. A rough chop is fine. Measure out 1/2 cup. Make sure your soap is packed tightly into your measuring cup.
Step 2: Pour the soap base into a small saucepan and add in the sweet almond oil. Melt over low heat until the soap is completely melted. This will take several minutes. Stir gently every so often.
Step 3: While the soap is melting, measure out the sugar into a separate bowl. Add in the peppermint essential oil and the dried peppermint and stir well.
If you are using a glass or metal baking pan, line it with freezer paper, shiny side up. I prefer freezer paper to wax paper because it’s heavier and doesn’t stick to the sugar scrub cubes. You can tape the paper to the pan to keep it secure.
For this project, silicon baking pans are my favorite though. No need to line and the sugar scrub cubes come out super easily!
Step 4: Once the soap base is completely melted, remove from heat. Immediately dump the sugar into the saucepan and stir like crazy!
Your mixture will tighten up and thicken quickly; that’s OK. Just continue to stir as best as possible, until it’s completely mixed.
Step 5: As soon as the mixture is thoroughly mixed, turn it out into your prepared baking pan.
With your spoon or your hands (careful, it’s hot) press the mixture down until it’s more or less flat and even. No need to be perfect.
Step 6: Let your sugar mixture set to cool and firm up. This will take about 2 hours or so.
Once it’s completely cooled, use a non-serrated knife to cut into approximately 1 inch cubes. Don’t worry about getting them perfectly symmetrical or the same size. It’s handmade, after all; that’s part of the charm.
Your cubes are now ready for packaging. I like to put them in a cute jar tied with ribbon. You can even use small cello bags.
To use: Take one or two cubes into the shower. Knead gently in your hand and massage over the entire body until they dissolve. Rinse well.
Shelf life: 12 months. Do not store sugar scrub cubes in the shower or your sugar scrub cubes will dissolve. Keep tightly wrapped on a shelf or cabinet until ready to use.
