Here’s My Story

I live on a little Idaho farmstead with my husband, three kids, maternal grandmother, and a menagerie of farm animals. I truly love everything about the country life: milking goats, tending the garden, canning fruit from the orchard, and getting a little crazy by the bonfire at night. ;)

I really love DIY and handmade everything, including skin care!

I’ve been making DIY skin care products for nearly my entire life. It started when I was a teenager, raiding the pantry to make simple facial masks and scrubs.

But my first “real” bar of soap is what got me hooked. I purchased a block of melt and pour soap base from my local craft store, added some dried sage from my garden and a few drops of sweet orange essential oil… and the result felt like magic to me.

Looking back, it wasn’t a very pretty bar, but it didn’t matter. I fell in love with the process. 

That slowly blossomed into more: handcrafted soap, lotion, mineral makeup, and bath and body products. The entire process of taking lovely oils and fragrant herbs, and creating something luxurious and practical was enchanting to me.

So, I headed back to school to study the skin and became an esthetician. I attended Federico College (Sacramento, CA) and completed both undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the International Dermal Institute, San Francisco.

What I learned there about product formulation helped me craft skin care treatments that were professional quality, with an emphasis on natural ingredients.

In 2000, I started teaching holistic skin care classes at California State University, Stanislaus, through the Wellness WORKs! program, where I was an instructor for 17 years.

In 2001 I expanded to other colleges and programs, teaching beginners how to make their own handcrafted soap, skin care, bath and beauty products.

In 2007, I launched my own artisan skin care brand Farm Girl Soap Co. Today, the brand is run by my eldest daughter, and is still dedicated to bringing you the freshest skin care handcrafted here on the farm.

Over these past two decades, I’ve taught thousands of women how to create awesome skin care products through live classes and workshops.

In 2018, I began offering online courses too, via my online schoolhouse, so that you can study with me no matter where you may be.
