The perfect easy DIY facial serum. This pumpkin seed and rose hip facial serum is rich, full of antioxidants, and highly moisturizing.
As the weather starts to turn cooler, and the dry autumn winds pick up, your skin needs extra protection. This super rich DIY pumpkin seed and rose hip facial serum will do just that. It’s so perfect for fall.
A facial serum isn’t a replacement for your regular moisturizer. Instead, use it as a nutritive boost for your skin and as an extra emollient to help seal in moisture. Smooth a few drops over your skin after moisturizing for more supple skin.

Skin Care Benefits of Pumpkin Seed Oil
Pumpkin seed oil is a rich oil that coats your skin in emollient goodness. It makes a nice protective layer over the skin and helps plump up skin cells.
Pumpkin seed oil is highly moisturizing and rich in Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, so it’s a great antioxidant oil.
Pumpkin seed oil is a heavier oil. It will absorb into the skin but it takes a while… a long while. So, this oil I reserve for the cooler months when my skin is extra dry, chapped, and thirsty. It’s a bit too heavy for warm weather for me personally, but depending on your skin type your skin may love it year round.
Skin Care Benefits of Rose Hip Seed Oil
Rose hips are those gorgeous, round fruit left behind on rose bushes after all the blooms have faded. (If you have rose bushes, don’t deadhead them after August. You’ll be rewarded with a bush full of brightly colored hips that last nearly all winter long.)

Rose hips are actually the fruit of the rose bush. Incredibly nutritive oil is expressed from the seeds found in these pretty orange to red fruits. Rose hip oil is a fabulous anti-aging oil.
Rose hip seed oil is naturally high in vitamin C, which helps repair skin damage and stimulates cell regeneration.
Most large natural food stores will carry both rose hip and pumpkin seed oils, most often in the skin care aisle. You can also order them from online soap and herbal suppliers.

Pumpkin Seed and Rose Hip Facial Serum Recipe
Because this pumpkin seed and rose hip DIY facial serum is fairly heavy, you only need a few drops per use. A little bit goes a long way. The faster absorbing rose hip seed oil helps balance out the heavy pumpkin seed oil. But if you find it a bit too slow absorbing for daytime, try applying only at night.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons pumpkin seed oil
- 2 tablespoons rosehip seed oil
To make:
Pour oils into a small container and shake well to incorporate.
I like to keep mine in a glass vial with a dropper for ease of use. I in love with these blue bottles with dropper tops, because they go with my bathroom decor.
If you’re not a fan of cobalt, these clear glass bottles with silver caps may be more your style.
To use:
Massage several drops of serum over the entire face, neck, and chest. It’s gentle enough to use around the eye area and on the lips too. Apply after your regular moisturizer.
Let absorb fully into the skin. No need to rinse off in the morning, it will give your skin extra protection throughout the day.
If this blend feels too heavy for you, replace half of the pumpkin seed oil with lighter grapeseed oil.
Yield: 2 fluid ounces
Shelf life: Approximately 6 months
